What the Reading Group Guide does
A reading group guide is the set of discussion questions a book club works through after finishing your book. Bookshaper drafts about a dozen open-ended questions from your manuscript's themes, character arcs, and turning points, grouped into Themes, Characters, and Structure — editable, and ready to add to your book or export on their own.
The guide is read after the last page, so the questions discuss the ending and the twists freely. Keep that in mind before you post it anywhere a reader might meet it first.
Generating draws on your manuscript analysis — themes, chapter synopses, or character arcs. With none of those yet, Bookshaper asks you to analyze the manuscript before it can write questions.
Generating and editing the questions
Open Reading Group Guide from the sidebar and click Generate Discussion Guide. The questions appear under the Themes, Characters, and Structure tabs, each as an editable field. Rewrite any question in your own words, or add your own with the add link under each tab.
Deleting a question removes it at once, with an Undo in the notice that follows. Regenerate Guide drafts a fresh set; if you've edited, added, or deleted questions since the last one, Bookshaper asks before replacing them.
Using the guide
Add to Back Matter puts the guide in your book as a styled Reading Group Guide section, so it ships inside the EPUB and print edition on your next book export. Later edits to the questions carry through to that section automatically; Remove takes it out again. Export EPUB and Export PDF save the guide on its own for your website, newsletter, or a library pitch. All of them use your book's interior design.
